Coaching Profiles
Jim Crouch | Shawn Mitchell | Michael Choate | Monica Reynolds
Jim Crouch
Jim began bicycle racing while attending the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1985. Surrounded by some of the best cyclists in the nation was both daunting and inspiring, but he was afforded the opportunity to absorb a great deal about bicycle racing and cycling in general. The years of racing in Boulder and the lessons learned set forth a foundation that he was able to successfully build on for a number of years.
Jim also spent a number of years ski racing, and subsequently went on to teach skiing as a PSIA-Certified Ski Instructor.
These experiences and the desire and passion to share the lessons learned over a period of 20+ years inspired Jim to begin coaching cyclists in 2005 and additional endurance athletes in 2006. In 2006, Jim officially launched Next Step Cycling, which has now grown into Priority Training Systems.
In addition to coaching, Jim is currently working on his Master’s in Exercise and Sports Science to compliment his undergraduate degree in Psychology. Jim also has a Level 2 Certification from USA Cycling, and is well versed training various endurance-based athletes.
Jim, his wife Megan, and two small children live in Eagle, ID.

Shawn Mitchell
Shawn grew up with adventure in many activities such as camping, hunting, skiing, motorcycle riding, and fishing. He built his own BMX bike from a frame and some parts he got from friends when he was 10 years old, and later saved enough money from odd jobs to buy a new Raleigh BMX bike….and he was hooked!
Shawn has been integrated into the world of competitive cycling and skiing for nearly twenty years, and is nothing short of a Northwest cycling legend. Some of Shawn’s (many) achievements include racing as a Professional Mountain Biker, Category 1 Road Cyclist, and Elite-Level Cyclocross Rider. Shawn has been involved with cycling in the media too, having starred in Saturn cars commercials, as well as Fox Sports “Ride Guide” for Ionic Cycles. In addition, Shawn is an accomplished competitive runner.
In 2004, Shawn began mentoring younger athletes on the Boise Development Cycling Team, and currently serves as the Team’s Director. Shawn consults on course design for the short track and cyclocross courses in the nationally recognized Idaho Velodrome and Cycling Park, slated to open in Spring, 2008. Shawn holds a USA Cycling Level 3 Coaching License.
Shawn, his wife Kristina (an accomplished competitive swimmer and triathlete), and their young daughter live in Boise, ID.
